21 - New Hampshire, Mandy Moore

Leader of one of my current favorite shows, Mandy Moore has worked for her music and acting career with strength for 20 years. She is a voice we all know, and regardless of ratings, always rises to the top!

New Hampshire is the sixteenth state to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment on September 10, 1919. This is also exactly 1/3 of the way through my blog adventure!! Yay!

Amanda Moore’s career spans a long list of albums and movie / television hits, where even among frequently mediocre reviews, her talents shined. Starting as a young teenage singer, she toured with the leading boy-bands *NSync and the Backstreet Boys. Her popularity grew, but the release of her first albums were not successful, even being cited by herself as failures. They were appropriate for the time in her life, but did not stand up to her desires or attributes.

She turned to acting after ending her five year contract with Epic Records not feeling the artistic expression was her best work or growing. She acted alongside many very notable actors in teenage romantic and satire comedies. She voiced Disney’s Rapunzel in “Tangled”, starred in Nicolas Sparks “A Walk to Remember”, and many more. Though the films typically received low to mediocre reviews, her personal popularity was growing in the industry, and her career was accelerating.

Returning to music, where her true heart was, she released her fifth and sixth albums with a style that spoke to her as a singer and songwriter. Her typecast style of young and bubbly teenage music evolved to a show that brought the music back to the stage without big lights and bands.

In 2016, she starred in “This Is Us”, and continues to develop the story with a future three more seasons to come.

Why this woman?

Looking for my New Hampshire representative, I was intrigued to learn about the life of Mandy Moore. She came to the music scene as I was growing out of the young teenage bands and music. I was in college when she emerged, and I did not respond to her bubbly style and following.

Starring in Saved!, I interestingly saw the new side of Mandy with her wit, breaking away from the view typically attributed to her. I saw her as a strong actress and no longer put her in the box she was working to get away from.

When This Is Us came out, the duality of her character in different ages has been fantastic. She holds the personality of the mom so well, showing the care and love that has changed over time. I see that all around me. I feel it in me. I am not the same person I was. I have been changed by my life and times. I have been changed by the world around me. She acts both characters seamlessly, holding herself as a young mom, a early love, and a hardened grandmother that has the world on her shoulders. She brings the tears to my eyes every week.

It is not an easy role to play. And I honestly don’t think there could be anyone to play it so engagingly as her. It is skill. She is strong and will continue to be a star in my lifetime. True entertainer.
